The tall
Black man
steps
into
the light
Waves of emotion
join
the clamor
of undying
devotion
A sea
of thunderous acclaim
salutes
his spirit
his wife
and daughters
Moved
beyond
belief
he tastes
the sweetness
of a victory
he humbly
offers
to the People
His heart
filled with sorrow
smiles
a tender smile
of love
gratitude
Amidst
a sea of tears
and heartfelt pride
people
of all creeds
and colors
celebrate
a new beginning
experience
the power
of transformation
break
the glass ceiling
that shackled
the minds
of many generations
in this country
of immigrants
built by slaves
Barack Obama
asks
for help
for patience
agrees
to listen
to act
with honesty
and sober wisdom
resolves
to continue
the struggle
past the confines
of time
into
a healing future
of hope

Hi, Nancy. Cathy Barnes from Tumblewords. You've caught the essence of many people's feelings so beautifully in your poem. I feel the election results are reflective of a great healing in this nation, as well, and I am so grateful for that. I agree with the comment in one of the other articles that this is Dr. Martin Luther King's dream realized. In his unforgettable, "I Have a Dream Speech," he said that his dream was that someday people would be judged, not by the color of their skin, but by the content of their hearts. People looked into Obama's heart, and were moved.

Nancy Green' poem "A Moment in History" has, in a timely fashion, brought a bright and beatific smile on the faces of many of us living in this Sun City we call home.
Hopefully, Its powerful message will resonate beyond our Borderland and into the far reaches of Mother Earth.
I hope and pray it will be translated into Spanish and many other languages so as to reach all future generations that they too may join us in the celebration of this Moment in History.
May God's Grace continue to embrace my dear friend Nancy and sustain her talents so that she will continue to bring light, hope and healing to all humanity.
