The Immigrant Women of El Paso: Photo and Portrait Exhibit opens at the El Paso Museum of History on Nov. 14 at 6 p.m. At 8 p.m. head over to the El Paso Public Library for a spoken celebration, recitation of ancestral women's names and closing reception.

- Outside, police cars drove past with their lights flashing. Tomorrow, perhaps, we'd read about murders in the paper. Tomorrow we could face the devil, in the news and in the mirror. But tonight we had two world class concert hall musicians in a little dive bar cantina on a disreputable side street in downtown Juarez .

- We decided to conduct discussions about the new dynamics emerging in our community through new media. Essentially, we decided to brew coffee and ideology.

- By about halfway through the first song the promoter had left. By about three quarters of the way into the first song, the bartender had walked over and turned the PA off, and that was our first only El Paso show up till now.

In addition to the large event at Centro Mayapan, El Pasoans celebrated the first weekend of November with Day of the Dead parties, poetry readings and, of course, numerous altars. Day of the Dead celebrations have moved north from Mexico to the borderlands and to points beyond in recent years.

Three months ago, Sergio received a call from a lawyer representing the city. He was told that his bar, the venerable Arbolito, was in the way of the revitalization project. He was offered a small sum of money for the bar; the city of Juarez plans to replace his and neighboring properties with parks, monuments and new businesses.
